CD THADER – 3 SC TORREVIEJA – 2
Although both teams were tied on points before this highly charged local derby cup match, in Saturday’s Community League (Thader 5th, Torrevieja 6th), Thader fully deserved their victory.
Referee Pachero, along with his assistants Lozano and Pérez, were responsible for very debatable decisions (or lack thereof!!).
This tie for the fifth day of La Nostra Copa was played at the Moi Gómez stadium in Rojales, which had recently seen the pitch changeover. As expected, a large crowd turned out to see Thader take the lead in the 19th minute when a defensive error allowed Presius to run free into Goa.
Thader’s striker made no mistake by sliding the ball under Pizana’s attack, between the Torrevieja posts.
Less than 3 minutes later, a glorious assist from Javi to Serhiy resulted in the energetic Ukrainian firing home from inside the Torrevieja area to extend the home team’s lead.
When Juan brought down a visiting attacker, everyone saw that the incident occurred outside the area, but unfortunately, the match officials thought otherwise. The resulting penalty was coolly taken by Lewis, giving the visitors an unlikely addition to the scoreline.
With time approaching half-time, Jordi executed a magnificent free-kick from 25 yards, which beat both the wall and goalkeeper Pizana, to restore Thader’s 2-goal lead.
Both teams had good chances in the second half, when some opportunities fell through, but were not taken advantage of.
Just when it seemed that the match was going to continue its course, giving Thader a well-deserved pass to the round of 16, Torrevieja scored a second goal.
At least two players were blatantly offside, but a sub-par linesman did not make the correct call, as had happened before on more than one occasion, as he was meters away from play. Thader’s defense stood still, waiting for a flag, which ultimately resulted in a headed goal.
Already in added time, Torrevieja once again had the ball in the net, only this time, the same linesman considered it appropriate to raise his flag – no comment!!
In a match that was played in good spirit (not dirty in any way), Mr. Pachero inexplicably chose to reserve 5 Thader players (plus the coach and assistant), plus 4 visitors.
This was the first of 3 consecutive games at the Moi Gómez stadium. Next, a sixth round community league match against Novelda on Sunday, January 12, at 11:30 a.m., then on Sunday, January 19, also at 11:30 a.m., Torrevieja will once again be the visitor in what is expected Let it be another fighting match.
