San Miguel GS in La Granja (January 2)

Winners pictured with Lee Eastman (Captain, second right), Kevin Whiting (Abacus winner, left), Drew Niblock (Golf, second left) and Cecilia Lager (Silver, far right).

San Miguel started the New Year in style with a fantastic outing to one of our regular courses, La Finca. Despite the refreshingly cool start to a January morning, turnout was excellent, with 46 members and guests in attendance, eager to start 2025 on a high note. We think most of the hangovers had subsided since New Year’s Eve, but…

Windy and cool (cold for Spain…) leaving from 1streetIt seemed like most people got back into rhythm very quickly. Layers of clothing were discarded as holes were played with most in shirts and shorts by the 18th. The climate provided ideal conditions for playing golf. The course, as always, was in excellent condition, the greens appear to be well used but were still fast and tricky. We welcome back scran and drinks at Corner Flag, thanks to new owner Danny for his hospitality.

The inaugural 2025 game had the following winners:

Gold: Drawn Niblock (39 points)
Silver: Cecilia Lager (37 points)
Bronze: Evan Smith (40 points and best score of the day – a fabulous score from this young gentleman)

The “Two” pot was left untouched this week, so it will roll over for next week! Closest to the Pins this week were Fred Green, Sten Ronsen, Norman Padmore and Guy Wade Palmer. Ian Benzie won the football card with Coventry and this week’s best guest was David Stone, winning a beautiful set of San Miguel golf balls.

We’ll be returning to Lo Romero next week, so let’s see how it goes.
