One of the toughest NFL road trips is a date at M&T Bank Stadium with the Baltimore Ravens.
Lamar Jackson and company have been impressive so far in 2024-25 and have had good support leading up to the Super Bowl.
But they were stopped at home by the Philadelphia Eagles, who welcomed them back in December with an excellent 24-19 victory in Baltimore.
And that victory only serves to cement the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes in 2025.
The eagles have landed
The Super Bowl odds suggest that it is the Detroit Lions (+275) and Buffalo Bills (+450) that are the teams to beat based on the evidence of the regular season so far.
But those who bet on American football will be well aware that the Bills have never won the Super Bowl, while the Lions have yet to reach the NFL championship game.
Of course, those things need to be changed in the sports world, but if history and pedigree count for anything, the Eagles (Super Bowl champions in 2017, NFC Conference winners in 2022) certainly have that on their side.
It also helps that they have several high-level operators in their ranks. Of them, it was once again Jalen Hurts who changed the game against the Ravens.
Philadelphia found itself trailing 0-9 after the first quarter in Baltimore and desperately needed a spark. And they got one, well, courtesy of Hurts, who came to life in the second half.
He threw a touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert to reduce his team’s deficit, before Hurts himself darted into the end zone after another smart play.
Those are the inspirational moments that can win playoff games, so Philadelphia knows it has a winner on its hands in Hurts.
Saq Attack
Experts are starting to make their predictions about who will take the regular season MVP crown.
A common pick is Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley, who is having arguably the best season of his career.
The 27-year-old is, as of this writing, one yard away from crossing the 1,500-yard rushing mark and has been awarded NFL Offensive Player of the Week three times this stretch.
In one outing against the Los Angeles Rams, Barkley rushed for 255 yards, setting up a pair of 70+ yard touchdowns in a stellar performance. That 255 yards was the ninth-most ever recorded in an Eagles game in their 90-year history.
You can’t hold back a good man, and it was Barkley who secured the Eagles’ striking victory over the Ravens on December 1. He ran in a touchdown in the fourth quarter to ensure Philadelphia stayed out of reach of the hosts.
It’s his versatility and ability as a running back and receiver that sets Barkley apart as an offensive dynamo, and while others in the NFL have had more column inches when it comes to the MVP award, few deserve it like the Eagles’ man.
With Barkley and Hurts in this shape, Philly will have to pause a bit.
