Real Madrid lost 0-1 against Eibar on matchday 15 of League F. Below I leave you my thoughts and opinions on the match.
Mylene Chavas started in goal. Olga returned as LB in the starting lineup, with Antonia at RB. Lakrar and Rocío formed the CB duo. Teresa and Toletti were the pivotal duo. With Linda and Eva Navarro on the wings, Redondo and Møller led the line as a forward duo, while the Dane moved into the number 10 position in the 4-2-3-1 formation.
Eibar maintained a low block with 6 at the back, in a 6-3-1 for most of the match. Although Las Blancas dominated all the statistics, the Basque team denied them all opportunities. Eva Navarro was in charge of taking the ball into the area from the right, but in most cases she was no match for Eibar’s low block. The cleanest way to get the ball in was with a cross, which Olga kept trying.
Alba Redondo had her positioning right in this match but did not use her finishing boots in the match as there were numerous occasions where she either had incredibly bad luck or was denied by María Miralles’ perfect reflexes. In the second half, Real Madrid had 2 double chances in which Redondo was involved in both and Miralles made 2 double saves that gave him the well-deserved MVP award.
There were a few more factors that explained what went wrong in this game. The first, obvious one, is Lakrar’s injury during the tackle that led to the goal. The French defender was removed from the field of play by Méndez in the last 15 minutes of the first half. Later in the second half, Olga was limped off and replaced by Weir, after which Las Blancas moved to a defense of 3. While Real Madrid lost patience, there were also many overloads on both sides, including some scares from injuries.
- 28′: GOAL (0-1) by Andrea Álvarez: Lakrar lost entry in midfield to Álvarez after which the attacker saw the goal open while Chavas was out of position and took advantage.
This was the second league defeat this season thanks to the skill and patience of the Eibar defense. Even with this defeat, Las Blancas are in no danger of losing second place in the table.
