Recap; Highlights, & Analysis: Real Madrid Femenino 3-1 Granada; F League, 2025

Real Madrid defeated Granada 3-1 on matchday 14 of League F. Below are my thoughts and opinions on the match.

Misa started in goal. With no left backs available in the team, Oihane filled in at LB while Shei started at RB. Méndez and Lakrar once again formed the CB duo. It was a 4-2-3-1 with Leupolz and Toletti as the pivot duo, with Caroline Weir forming part of the front four with Linda and Athenea on the wings, with Signe Bruun leading the line.

There were some strange experiments from the beginning of the game. First, there was a hint of Leupolz dropping back to a back three for a setup on the left side through Oihane. However, that hint of action ended quickly when Granada closed down Oihane on the touchline. After that, there were some attempts by both Shei and Athenea to move with the ball to the left side and join Oihane and Caicedo there, leaving the right side essentially bare for individual actions.

Granada definitely took advantage of the lack of organization that Las Blancas had in the wide areas, especially on the left wing. They took the white team outside and then sent a long ball from behind to Edna Imade or Laura Pérez. The Madrid left back was well closed by the Andalusian team

  • 15′: GOAL (1-0) by Maëlle Lakrar: corner taken by Leupolz sent to the near post, wen
  • 27′: GOAL (1-1) by Edna Imade: An attempted clearance from a Granada corner followed by a scramble in front of the penalty area so that Mingueza got the ball to Edna Imade. The forward was onside and only had to beat Misa to finish the action as she did. Deserved draw for Granada.

There were no changes from either side at half-time. The second half was much better than the first. At least in terms of chances and scoring chances. It took a little while for Las Blancas to start shooting freely at the goal, but once they did, they came close every time, either hitting the woodwork or missing the target by a few centimeters.

The first change, in the 60th minute, where Angeldahl and Redondo replaced Athenea and Toletti, gave that atmosphere of fresh legs that Real Madrid needed so much, especially on the left wing. The winning goal was scored just one minute after the substitution was made. In the continuation of the match we could see a combination on the left between Angeldahl and Linda with Redondo in the area, which also took the pressure off Oihane that Granada previously had and made him move more freely behind. She didn’t come forward to attack, but she didn’t need to.

  • 61′: GOAL (2-1) by Signe Bruun: A pass from Leupolz to Linda Caicedo opened the action where the Colombian ran into the area where she passed it laterally to Bruun in front of the goal.
  • 90+4′: GOAL (3-1) by Eva Navarro: Oihane took the ball to the area where she was surrounded by 3 players. The ball then found Navarro who shot from the edge of the area and made it 3-1.

Frustrating 3 points but 3 points nonetheless. The third game of the year and the third victory.
