Torrevieja continues with its ambitious sports investment program. Following the recent inauguration of the La Mata Pavilion and the reopening of the renovated Nelson Mandela Stadium, the city is now focusing on improving the racket area of the Sports City.
The Governing Board approved this Monday, in an extraordinary and urgent session, the awarding of the works to adapt the racket facilities.
The project, awarded to Pavasal for 1,078,848 euros (VAT included), will begin in January and aims to be completed next summer. The improvement will include the repair of seven paddle tennis courts, which have been closed since 2019 due to poor conditions, as well as the rehabilitation of two racquetball courts. In addition, a new access control system, cafeteria and measures to improve accessibility will be implemented.
KEY ELEMENTS OF THE PROJECT INCLUDE:
Paddle Courts: The current facilities will be dismantled and removed. New fibrillated artificial grass, LED lighting, double side openings and anti-injury system will be installed. The center stand will have anchored plastic seats and the masonry and paint will be updated. A new access will be created for maintenance work on Avenida Delfina Viudes and the surroundings of the courts will be landscaped to improve maintenance and reduce vegetation inside. An accessible ramp will connect the three levels of the snowshoe area.
Frontenis Courts: Repairs include chipping and leveling the front walls, upgrading the lighting system and replacing the perimeter mesh.
Café: A new facility with a large outdoor terrace will be built on the esplanade between the gymnasium and the exhibition field.
Additional improvements: The lighting on three tennis courts and the exhibition court will be replaced. Solar panels will be installed to supply the gym locker rooms.
These improvements reflect Torrevieja’s commitment to improving its sports infrastructure, providing modern, accessible and environmentally sustainable facilities for both residents and visitors.
