BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE FOR 9 MAN THADER AT THE LOCAL DERBY

There were 5 red cards in this local derby

CD THADER – 0 SC TORREVIEJA – 1

BY STEVE HIBBARD

Having won and drawn against arch-rivals Torrevieja this season, Thader must have fancied his chances in this Community League match. Mirroring the recent cup match between the two teams, there was another encouraging crowd inside the Moi Gómez Stadium, Rojales.

Great midweek performance against Denia, in which Press & Fran’s goals gave Thader a well-deserved victory, lifting them to the dizzying heights of 2nd position, while Torry sat in 7th position.

Biteno should have put Torry ahead in the 12th minute, but from the edge of the area he shot wide.

On half some chances, Thader had 2 glorious chances in quick succession. First, Fran headed wide of the post, then, within seconds, Tremino forced a good save from Hector between the posts.

All hell broke loose when Kone had to be restrained by his Thader teammates, which can only be assumed to have been a derogatory racial comment made in his direction by a Torry player.

The only goal of the game came on the stroke of half-time. A terrible defensive mix-up allowed Mati to run towards goal, before planting the ball in front of Chema and then putting it into the net from the far post. It was very debatable whether he was onside or not, but since Mr. López (lines judge) was so far behind the game, he was not in a position to decide one way or the other.

Straight from the second half, Tremino went on a solo run, before seeing his goal-bound shot pushed acrobatically into a corner. In the 50th minute Fran pulled off a beauty from 30 yards but once again Hector superbly pulled off a wonderful save.

Thader’s task was further complicated when, less than a minute later, captain Juan recklessly challenged an opponent. While it was certainly a silly and unnecessary foul, there was no real malice intended, so being given a straight red card seemed a bit harsh, to say the least.

What followed was less surprising, as both Raúl (coach) and Adrián (assistant) received their usual yellow cards (for dissent), which were quickly followed by a red for Adrián (more dissident), who immediately went to the locker room .

Getting back into the game at this stage seemed like a tall order for a Thader team that was a shadow of its former self.

Loud calls for a penalty, when Tremino appeared to be brought down in the Torry penalty area in the 72nd minute, fell on deaf ears, before 2 minutes later substitute Amin shot wide.

Chema saved well from the dangerous Mati de Torry, then, at the other end, Amin hit the post.

Torry should have put an end to the match in the 88th minute, but when faced with a 1v1, Anton somehow deflected his shot.

Already cautioned, Álvamo’s foul on Pepe earned the Torry midfielder another yellow card, quickly followed by a red card.

In stoppage time Tremino forced man of the match Hector into another brilliant save, then from the resulting corner Thader was denied another penalty for an illegal challenge. A nasty foul on Hector by the former Torry Amin earned him a red card, before, in the ensuing melee, the other Hector (Torry’s No.3 defender) was also sent off for an off-the-ball altercation.

Berni had the last word, when his shot was again impressively saved by goalkeeper Héctor, but Thader failed to open the scoring. Both teams left the field with 9 players each, in a match not for the faint-hearted.

Next weekend (January 25 or 26) Thader will have another community league match, this time against Eldense ´B´. Check out CD Thader’s Facebook page for more information.
