Real Madrid defeated Royal Society with the result 3-2 to qualify for their first Spanish Women’s Super Cup finals. Below are my thoughts and opinions on the match.
- Misa started in goal. Shei and Olga started as full-backs, with Méndez and Lakrar as the central duo. Toletti and Leupolz formed the pivot duo and Angeldahl played the winger role on the right side. Linda took the other wing, while Weir acted as the number 10 and Bruun led the attack.
On the other hand, former Real Madrid player Lucía Rodríguez started as a left center back, while Lorena Navarro started on the bench.
Las Blancas took an early lead in the 4th minute with an action down the left wing. The txuri-urdin started attacking as soon as the goal scored, getting 2 good chances in the next 4 minutes. La Real tied in the 10th minute.
After the tie, Las Blancas took control of the match. All the action was happening through the left side and it was as if the right side had never existed.
In the 27th minute Leupolz had to be substituted due to injury and Athenea came on. This substitution resulted in Linda moving into the RW role while Athenea assumed the LW role. For a while it seemed that it didn’t matter who played on which side as the white club continued to move to the left. As soon as the white team began to attack from the right, the second goal was scored, and the action happened through none other than Linda Caicedo. The white club went into the break with an advantage.
In the second half, Angeldahl switched to playing on the left, but other than that, there were no changes at half-time. Real Madrid dominated the second half until the last 10 minutes, which were affected by the triple substitution in the 81st minute. In the 89th minute, Lorena Navarro scored a goal that was disallowed due to an attacking foul committed by a teammate. A penalty was awarded in added time and then came Amaiur’s second goal in the fifth added minute. Alba Redondo had to be treated by the medical staff one minute after the 3-2 goal and more time was added. La Real took advantage to get closer to the goal and also got a late corner, but in the end the tie never came.
- 4′: GOAL (1-0) by Caroline Weir: Brilliant action on the left wing and Linda-Olga-Bruun combination in the area, which was saved, but Weir was in a position to take advantage of the rebound in front of the goal.
- 10′: GOAL (1-1) by Amaiur Sarriegi: Nerea Eizagirre sent a long ball from behind to an unmarked Amaiur. They beat Misa 1 to 1 and Méndez failed to block the shot that ended in the tie.
- 37′ GOAL (2-1) by Filippa Angeldahl: The action started from behind as Shei moved horizontally. He passed it to Weir, who found Linda Caicedo in the RW. The Colombian put the ball into the area and returned it to Angeldal who was in a great place to shoot.
- 71′: GOAL (3-1) by Linda Caicedo: A solitary action by the Colombian winger. A brilliant pass through the middle of the field to beat Lete 1-1 and make it 3-1.
- 90+5′: GOAL (3-2) by Amaiur Sarriegi: A long ball sent by Lucía reached Mirari inside the area, who headed Amaiur to finish with a header.
Another final in Butarque Municipal Stadiumthis time in the Super Cup and this time in El Clásico. Can Las Blancas get their first victory and trophy in the Classic?
