The Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) has awarded the COE Olympic Plaque to the Torrevieja City Council in recognition of its important contributions and outstanding effort in promoting the sport of handball.
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, thanked the COE and its president, Alejandro Blanco, for this prestigious honor. He described it as a stimulus to continue prioritizing sport as a fundamental pillar for the growth and development of the city.
The mayor highlighted the trust placed in Torrevieja by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM), headed by its president Francisco Blázquez, to host major international events. These have proven to be a tremendous success, attracting public recognition and displaying exceptional organization. Two key milestones were especially memorable for the city: hosting the Guerreras during the 2021 Women’s Handball World Championship and the Women’s Pre-Olympic Handball Tournament in April 2024, both held at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace.
Furthermore, Dolón praised the efforts of Diana Box Alonso, Councilor for Sports, and her team for their dedication and work, which have turned Torrevieja and its Sports City into a national benchmark of excellence in infrastructure and sporting events.
