To whom It May Concern:
Juninho: This DT week will probably be messy and sometimes half-assed compared to my usual standard. Sometimes life just happens. Sometimes you just don’t have that much free time. However, it is the perfect time since there are not many games. Now I can write whatever I want. King ish… you know?
Welcome to El Merengue Diario — a blog where you can feel free to discuss everything related to football. Don’t be alarmed by the RMCF’s overt bias. It’s in the name!
Shout out to the Mods who do a fantastic job. Valyrian Steel, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Juninho (“GOAT”).
A quick disclaimer
Disclaimer: These awards are not a true reflection of the thoughts or feelings of ManagementMadrid, SBNation or Coral. This is all just for fun and legitimately nothing serious. Please don’t take this seriously. Again, this is nothing serious.
Furthermore, your opinions and votes were taken into account for these awards, but just like the Ballon d’Or, a select group of mods, Juninho, dictators, little cats and journalists will ultimately make each decision. Anyway…let’s get started:
THE MM AWARDS 2024
Player of the Year: Vinicius Jr.
So I voted for Jude Bellingham. I knew he wasn’t going to win, but I really think it’s impressive what Jude has done last year at such a young age. Yes, Vini deserves this award, but Jude’s immense presence on the field in all aspects deserved more recognition. Anyway…according to MM vote: Player of the Year is Vinicius Jr. The current FIFA Player of the Year has had an incredible 2024 with Real Madrid. He has had goals and crucial moments against Dortmund, Barcelona, City, Atalanta and many other rivals. Congratulations on an incredible 2024 and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for #7.
MM Mod Moment of the year
Voted by all of you. MM Mod Moment of the Year goes to the one and only Goat of Mods: Juninho for his tireless recent work:
But the most important thing is that This prize must be shared by all mods. I mean, Val came in a week and illustrated the genesis of Daily Threads. Without your work, the threads here would not exist. Felipe spent a whole week of DT without access to any Twitter updates. Mans shot items from the hip. KFZ probably has more blue posts than any other mod, and at the same time, he constantly spends every day reminding you that Carlo needs to go. Nero also sneakily has some of the most interactive threads with the second/third most engaged threads.
So congratulations on another year, guys.
revelation player of the year
This was one of the tightest prizes, but The Breakthrough Player of the Year is Andriy Lunin!!!! I really thought Brahim was going to win this, but Lunin really deserves it. When the team lost the best goalkeeper alive, Andriy Lunin put in a brilliant performance during the most crucial moments of the season. I still find it a bit of a shame that Lunin wasn’t used in the UCL final (although it was understandable), but he really has been a cornerstone for our club to put aside its own ambitions for Madrid.
Honorable Mentions: Arda Guler, Nico Paz (on loan), Raul Asencio
MM Duo of the Year
I mean it’s obviously Hala + Luka Modric. Although I personally don’t love With this type of club-obsessed player, you can almost respect how much Hala posts about Luka. You’d think that Luka’s agent is paying him by now…
Honorable mention for TR + Mbappé Gif (which I’m now pretty sure was in 2023).
MM Wish List for 2025
This award is not worth my writing efforts because we honestly need everything. We need a new CB. We need a new RB (it looks like it will be Trent). Us probably Needs a new manager. (KFZ: We need a new manager). We also need a new LB.
MM Unknown Talent of the Year
This is another award in which no one really deserve win as all of these posters absolutely deserve their own recognition for their excellent posts. However, The winner of the MM Unknown Talent of the Year award is Alexander Roberts.
Alexander Roberts doesn’t always publish, but when he does it’s illuminating. Alexander rises above the usual MM bickering to dive into the tactical/structural mechanics of our team, as well as scout some of Brazil’s best future talent. My wish for 2025 is that you publish more (if you can). You can even write a DT feature or two. Anyway, congratulations!
Peace advice for the Gang’nem
