Deportiva Minera 0-5 real Madrid (Valverde, Camavinga, Güler x2 and Modrić). Moving on to the next round. Here is the reaction to the victory. On the way: player ratings, quotes and a Cup podcast.
Deportiva Minera was a fourth division team, which had faced the powerful Real Madrid at home in the Copa del Rey. Carlo Ancelotti took this as an opportunity to make some changes ahead of the trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup and brought in three young players at the back. For Castilla and the youth players, this was not only a great opportunity to get some first team minutes, but also a good way to acclimatise to fourth division football ahead of the team’s possible relegation to this level at the end of the season. Loren Aguado started at right back, with Castilla’s two impressive players, Gonzalo García and Chema Andrés, on the bench. Endrick started up front, with Luka Modrić as team captain.
Fede Valverde ensured there were no surprises on the cards with a powerful volley just minutes later. Next, Fran García sent a cross that was headed by Eduardo Camavinga and Real Madrid gave the fans courage from the beginning. Arda Güler scored the third before the break, but the home team only threatened Andriy Lunin with a long-range shot. 3-0 at halftime.
Gonzalo García, one of the only young players at the club who really deserves this opportunity, must be sitting on the bench wondering what the hell is going on…

Luka Modrić opened the scoring in the second half with another low and precise shot. Brahim Díaz had many opportunities to score, but did not seem willing to add his name to the scoreboard. Arda Güler closed the scoring with another good goal. The match ended 5-0, with little to take away for the next matches. What did you think of this game?
