SAN MIGUEL BAGS – BARRY JONES

On Monday all four teams were in action. The Dolphins visited La Marina and earned an 8-4 victory, winning on three courts 90 strokes to 67. The best winning trip was that of Jan Farmer, Dave Greenland and Steve Cantley 28 to 17.

The Orcas were in San Luis Klingons, unfortunately the Orcas did not have a good morning losing 2 – 10, 72 shots against 98, the winning trip was Bob Donnelly, Ann Taylor and Jack Jackson 18 – 12.

The Marlins were in St. Louis and lost 0 – 12, better luck next game.

The Stingrays played at home in the afternoon against Phoenix and had a great result winning 12 – 0, the best winners were Terry Lock, Matta Jonsdottir and Kari Hilmarsson 29 – 10.

The Winter League team was in action on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. On Tuesday, San Miguel got off to an early start against El Cid losing 2 – 8, the winning rink was Dave Homer, Hank Van Essen, Ron Nairey and Mike Douglas 19 – 12. On Wednesday, San Miguel visited Emerald Isle winning 7 – 3. , 63 shots to 60. The best winning team was Paul Hayward, Ron Peters, Ron Nairey and Eddie Cowan 19 – 16.

Berleen’s team also came into action losing 13 – 19.

On Friday the Navajos visited Quesada Swallows where they lost 2 – 10, 77 shots to 06, the winning trip going to Jack Jacksons Sue Gell and Bob Donnelly 16 – 15.

We remind you that Wasps sessions take place on Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 2.00pm: €5 for an afternoon of bowling with shoes and bowls available to borrow. Due to the popularity of the Wasps, first time bowlers are asked to attend an initial training session on Tuesday afternoons, starting at 1:45pm, by appointment ONLY. SAN LUIS BOWLS CLUB WITH SHAILA CAMMACK

Alicante South League: Monday the 20th The SL Klingons achieved a great result at home against San Miguel Orcas with 10 points-2, 98 shots-72. Winners: Chris Jackson, June Jones, Dave Webb 23-14, Dee Hoey, Carol and Gary Thorpe 21-13, Judy Carroll, Gordon Paton, David Blackie 25-12, Cathy and Noel Morrisroe, Barbara Louis 17-15.

SL Romulans were out against San Miguel Marlins and had an excellent result; 12 points-0, 128 shots- 68. Congratulations to the entire team: Chris Phillips, Derrick Cooper, Keith Phillips 34-13, Oyvid Lund, Jim Gwynn, Mike Wyatt 23-9, Jill Wyatt, Tony Ferreira Steve Gray 21- 17 , Pauline Johnson, Ngaio Baldwin, Lyndon Johnson 19-17, Maggs Haines, Ray Whatmough Peter Baldwin 23-12.

Winter League: Wednesday the 22nd San Luis took advantage of their trip north, to Calpe, adding 8 points-2, 76 shots-54. Winners: Dee Hoey, Chris Phillips, Brian Miller, Dave Blackie 22-12, Neil and Sandra Burrows, Carol and Gary Thorpe 21-13, Cathy Morrisroe, Bill Webb, Neil Morrisroe, Scott Malden 18-12.

Southern League: Friday the 24th SL Lions visited San Miguel Apaches and had a tough battle, finishing 4 points-8, 76 shots-80. Winners: Peter Ayres, Carol and Gary Thorpe 21-15, Dee Hoey, June Jones, Dave Webb 20-11.

SL Tigers, despite some close battles, had a “bad day at the office”, at home against Greenlands Cedars 0 points-12, 63 shots-119. Hopefully we’ll have better luck next week!

EMERALD ISLAND BOWLS CLUB – ELWYN MORRIS

The Titans started the week at Country Bowls Flamingos and had a fantastic total of 10=2 from 120=71. M Oakley AM Gerrard M Dyer 31=11, N Davis P Riley M Ellis 22=14, D Jones N Prior D Mooney 16=11, P Coffey D Gerrard M Harley 15=12

Moonrakers traveled to play Greenlands Beech and were defeated 4=8 with an aggregate score of 79=90. V Cameron A Westwater K Jones 25 = 10, D Clark J Forrest A Forrest 16 = 12

Emperadores played at home against San Miguel in the Winter League and fell to an aggregate defeat of 3=7 of 60=63. M Oakley T Riley M Ellis M Dyer 15=14, N Davis P Riley S Marks R Marks got a draw 15=15

The Cavaliers played in Country Bowls and were defeated 2=10. P Coffey P Riley M Ellis 22=9

Claymores were at home against El Rancho Raiders, and got a penalty of 12=0 Total of 129=44 T Paffett G Odell E Bennett 33=6, S Johnson P Moore K Jolliffe 25=10 K John E Morris J Loughran 23=6 , M Nash K Whelan J Fenty 23=16 A Gower K Barber A Pridmore 25=6

BOWLS LA MARINA – BARRIE ROBERTS

On Monday we entertained the San Miguel Dolphins in the Enterprise League and despite some close games, San Miguel took the game 8 points to 4. Our winning rinks: Jan Parsons, Stewart Wright and Barry Roberts, and Lesley and Dave Joynes skipped Sue. Daniels.

On Friday we entertained Montemar in the B division and took all five rinks for a 12-0 victory. All beginners and experienced players are always welcome at La Marina Bowls at the Berne Street Sports Complex.

QUESADA BOWLS CLUB WITH CHRISSIE EDWARDS.

January 17

The Swifts were at home against Vistabella Conquistadors, a morning game in cold conditions against tough opposition. Getting a good 6 in a draw, winning on 3 tracks. The winners were Tina Brinton, Ray Phillipson and Meurig Thomas. 28 – 16. Sue Elkington, Joan Inns, Barry Martyn, 21 – 20. Jacqui Denman, Tony Denman, Peter Bottle. 17-15. The overall shots went to Vistabella 93 – 90.

The Swans played at home against the Swallows, a league derby for these teams played in cold and wet conditions, despite it being an afternoon game. Swallows prevailed by winning on 3 tracks, the winners were George Carnell, Violet Campbell and Peter Morgan. 24 – 12. Graham Phillips, Mark France, Jason Prokopowic. 28 – 14. Terry Morgan, Clare Dye, Keith Lowry. 24-15. The 2 winning Swans teams were Ann Heath, Robert Heath and Barry Armstrong. 14 – 13. Ken Gordon, Dave Collings, Trevor Voisey. 23 – 10

January 20

Rubies were at home against Vistabella Drivers, the conditions were cold, but the Rubies pulled out a big win 10-2, winning on 4 tracks. Keep the pressure on the league leaders. The winners were Alan Johnson, Ray Phillipson, Meurig Thomas. 24 – 8. John Cleal, Max Holmes, Richad Lewin. 17 – 12. Tina Britton, Tony Denman, Peter Bottle, 21 – 13. Jacqui Denman, Sandra Johnson, Steve Hibberd. 20 – 14. The shots also went to the Rubies 94 – 71. Well done to everyone.
